Arequipa Mansion

La Casa de Moral or The Mulberry Mansion is named after an ancient Mulberry tree in its interior courtyard and was constructed in the 18th century and is located between Moral and Bolivar Streets. Its façade displays several figures carved in white volcanic stone called sillar ashlar diplaying the heads of pumas with serpents in their mouths and several figures (crowns, shields, angels and castles). The ornamental exuberance flows into its interior where the furniture becomes the pillar of the decoration and remarkable carvings adorn the doors and windows of the main rooms.

La Casa de Tristán del Pozo or The Tristan del Pozo Mansion was constructed in 1738 and it is the greatest expression of the Novo Hispanic architecture of Arequipa. Featuring Mestizo Baroque style architecture one will find extensive patios interior court yards decorated with stone carvings, guarded by gargoyles with feline characteristics. Upon entering you will find the façade delicately monogrammed with rosettes and flowers carved in sillar, a volcanic stone. Its interior features magnificent vaulted ceilings and two elegant patio interior court yards.

The mansion is open to the public from Monday through Friday 9:15 am to 12:45pm and 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Saturday it opens its doors from 9:30am to 12:30 pm.

El Palacio Goyeneche or The Goyeneche Palace was constructed at the end of the 18th century and is located on La Merced Street. Upon entering you will find interior court yard patios and elaborate wrought iron railings representing the strong will of the people of Arequipa. This exuberant and large mansion has two floors with an attractive façade with false Doric square columns and flower ornaments and a large balcony with iron railings. Upon entering one is struck by the elegant vaulted rooms and colonial style doors and windows. Currently the paintings of the Cusco School and fine sculptures of the Granada School are on display.

The Palacio Goyeneche Palace can be visited Monday through Friday from 9:15 am to 3:00 pm.

The Casona Irriberry or The Irriberry Mansion dates back to 1793 and features elegant vaulted rooms and ample interior court yard patios. The exquisite mansion is the property of the Universidad Nacional de San Agustin de Arequipa – The National University of Saint Augustine in Arequipa (UNSA), and along with the Casa Arróspide Mansion – another magnificent Colonial building, it makes up the Centro Cultural Chávez de La Rosa Cultural Centre, where permanent archeological samples and regional historical artifacts are exhibited.

It is located at the corner of the Santa Catalina and San Agustín Street.

The Casa Arróspide Mansion or The Arrospide Mansion, also known as the “Talking Mansion” due to the amount of inscriptions that on its walls and dates back to 1743. It is the property of the National University of San Agustín of Arequipa, and it is part of the Casona Irriberry Mansion – of the Centro Cultural Chávez de La Rosa Cultural Centre. Its Colonial rooms feature diverse samples of art, and presentation videos.
