Huancayo – Attractions


Torre Torre: Geological formations of red clay that were naturally eroded by the wind and rain to resemble castle, towers and suggestive silhouettes.

Ingenio Trout Hatchery: is the largest trout farm in Peru. It is located 28 kilometers northeast of the city of Huancayo.

Sunday Fair: The Sunday market is the most popular place to do your shopping.
Native Andean people make this journey there once a week. They come dressed in their colorful “Sunday Best” and display their booths for 12 blocks along the Huancavelica Avenue.
Everything from handmade rugs, bags and musical instruments can be found in this open air market. Shops, cafes and galleries are also plentiful in the city of Huancayo, just minutes away

La Merced Church: This church was built in honor of the Mercedes Virgin. It is a historic monument where the Peruvian Constitutional Congress was held for the first time in 1839.

Liberty Hill: At about 1 Km from the city you will find Liberty Hill Natural Observatory of Mantaro Valley. Known as the highest viewpoint of the city, from there you can see the whole town. It also has its own zoo.

Constitution Square: Main square of the city is named in honor of the Constitution of Cadiz of 1812

Plaza Huamanmarca: It is the oldest square in the city, it was founded in 1572.

Wanka Identity Park: Park made entirely of stone, full of artistic examples of Wanka culture.

Wanka Mural: Painted by Josue Sanches, international artist, it is located in the Main Avenue Giraldes, it represents the mythological history of the Wanka culture.

Festivals of Huancayo: Huancayo is well known for its festivals. It has more festivals than days of the year, totaling about 400.
One of the most famous is the Fiesta de las Cruces that takes place each May. During this festival Huancayo erupts into a succession of loud processions and festivities.
When you are in Huancayo, please try Pachamanca, a typical Peruvian food, with marinated meat, vegetables, potatoes and spices, which is slowly cooked in a hole in the ground, covered with hot stones.
