Lima night life is one thing that Peruvian’s like to take part in. Bars, discos, karaoke bars and clubs are plentiful if this is something of interest to you. You should be aware that “clubs” are known as strip clubs, so if you want to “go clubbing” or dancing, you would want to visit a disco. If you are going to a bar that has dancing make sure that you don’t leave your drink while you are on the dance floor. Either finish it before you dance, or just order a new one when you are done dancing. This is done for obvious safety measures. You must be 14 to enter a disco and 18 to drink.
Common attire is casual. Since most discos are outdoors you may want to bring a sweater or jacket in case it cools down in the evening. With the sun setting at 6 pm all year round it can get somewhat chilly at night. People are friendly and will ask you to dance. They love to dance so brush up on your salsa, meringue and bachata. The music does vary and some English music is played along with the Spanish favorites.
Some of the popular drinks most commonly ordered are beer and sangria. They also have beers made from local breweries. A popular national drink is algorrobina. It is made by mixing thick syrup of named algorrobina with milk, sugar and rum or whiskey.
